Getting Support for Linux@DUKE

If you need help with your Linux@DUKE system, there are the following avenues for obtaining support:

Asking on the DULUG mailing list

The DULUG Mailing list has many subscribers, most of whom are very proficient at both linux configuration and linux programming. Many subscribers are systems administrators, others are CS students or graduates. Asking your question on DULUG is hands down the best way to get linux support on Duke campus. To ask a question, you will first need to subsrcribe to the list.

Asking on the IRC channel

DULUG has an IRC channel where a lot of people tend to "hang out." Many of them are systems administrators working at Duke, so asking a sysadmin-related question on the channel is a good way to get quick answers. However, this is not nearly as good as asking your question on the DULUG list, as people can be absent or just plain busy.

Asking your sysadmin

If you are a member of faculty, or a graduate student working at Duke, your department may have a dedicated systems administrator who will be able to help answer your questions. Refer to your department's phone directory for their contact information.

Filing a bug in bugzilla

If you have problems with packages provided by the Linux@DUKE project, or some other issues with installation trees that you believe are errors or misconfigurations, please submit a problem report by filing a bug in the Linux@DUKE bugzilla:

Asking on the Linux@DUKE Mailing List

The Linux@DUKE mailing list exists for questions and discussions related to the project itself, and should not be used to ask general linux support questions. If you have questions about packages or installation trees provided by the project, or if you want to discuss current and future directions of Linux@DUKE, please feel free to send your inquiries to the list:

Asking Linux@DUKE sysadmins

Please note, that this is ONLY for questions related to Linux@DUKE that for some reason cannot be asked on the Linux@DUKE mailing list. Do not send general linux support questions or problem reports to Linux@DUKE administrators, you will probably be ignored; instead, use one of the venues outlined above. If you absolutely must contact Linux@DUKE administrators directly, please send email to the following address:
