Linux@DUKE 4: Information
We've taken the Fedora Core 4 distribution tree and added a series of
packages to help deploy commonly used services and keep them securely updated. We
used the Fedora Core 4 distribution because it offers the latest versions of many
commonly used desktop applications and development environments. For those
of you interested in the nicest looking and interacting Desktop linux
experience or the most recent versions of libraries and programming languages available
then the Fedora Core 4-based distribution is well suited to your needs.
The life cycle for security updates for this distribution is going to be
about 2 years from Duke but based on use. This means if in 1.5 years we find no
one is still using Fedora Core 4, we're not going to bother to continue to push
out updates.
Changes from the original
The only change between the Duke-provided tree of Linux@DUKE 4 and the upstream release is the version and configuration files for
yum.
