Centos-4: Information

Centos-4 is a distribution that rebuilds the Enterprise Linux 4 release by taking the Source RPMs and rebuilding them with full binary compatibility to the upstream RPM packages of the EL4 line (see the project website for more details about this distribution: www.centos.org).

Centos is intended for servers or systems where consistency of API/ABI and stability are valued over more current versions of software and should provide at least 3 years of security and bug updates, which makes it perfect for servers and cluster nodes where newer software is not a requirement.

Changes from the original

The only change between the Duke-provided tree of Centos-4 and the upstream release is the version and configuration files for yum.
